What Counts as Usage#
- Applications — Each deployed app counts as one, regardless of instances
- Services — Each service instance (e.g. a Postgres database) counts as one
- Memory — Total allocated memory across all app instances
- Users — Team members with access to the organization
Usage Metering#
Drift continuously meters the following resources for every organization:
- Storage — Persistent disk used by apps, services, and volumes
- Memory — Allocated RAM across all running containers
- CPU Time — Cumulative CPU seconds consumed
- Bandwidth — Ingress + egress network transfer
- Backups — Automated and manual backup snapshots stored
- Logs — Retained log volume
- Secrets & Certificates — Managed TLS certificates and environment secrets
Metrics are collected at 5-minute intervals and aggregated into your monthly usage total. You can inspect current usage at any time via the CLI or the admin dashboard:
# Show current billing-period usage

Soft-Cap Flow#
Drift uses a soft-cap model so your apps are never killed without warning:
- 80 % usage — You receive a warning notification via email and CLI.
- 100 % usage — Drift asks for overage consent. You can approve via
drift overage-consentor the admin dashboard. - 48-hour grace period — If no consent is given within 48 hours, non-essential workloads are stopped until you upgrade or free resources.

Billing Cycle#
Billing is monthly. Your billing period starts on the day you create your subscription and renews on the same day each month. Usage is calculated at the end of each billing period.
Monthly Invoicing#
Each invoice contains your base plan fee plus any overage charges from the previous billing period. Invoices are generated and sent via Bexio on the 1st of each month.
- If your overage for the period is CHF 0, no additional line item appears.
- Overage is itemised per metric so you can see exactly where costs come from.
- Payment terms are Net 30 for invoice customers; credit-card customers are charged immediately.

Usage Forecast#
The admin dashboard includes a usage forecast for every metered metric. The projection uses a linear regression based on the last 30 days of data to estimate your end-of-month usage and expected overage cost.
Use the forecast to decide whether to upgrade your plan before incurring overage charges.
Payment Methods#
- Credit card — Via Stripe. Visa, Mastercard, and AMEX accepted.
- Invoice — Via Bexio. Available for Team and Business plans. Net 30 payment terms.
Free Tier#
No credit card required
Upgrading & Downgrading#
Upgrade or downgrade at any time using the CLI or API:
- Upgrading — Takes effect immediately. You're billed the prorated difference for the current period.
- Downgrading — Takes effect at the next billing period. You must reduce your usage to fit within the new plan limits first.
